The death of Tyler Gilchrist occurred last Thursday morning at the home of his daughter Mrs. H. M. Eaton, after several weeks illness. Mr. Gilchrist was born in Illinois and came here as a young man locating on a farm west of town. After residing there several years he moved to Strawberry Point where he has since resided. After taking up his residence in Strawberry Point he with his oldest son, Dan, engaged in the hardware business for a number of years. He was of a genial disposition. Nothing of the haughty or proud in his nature. A perfect gentleman in whatever surroundings he was placed. He leaves to mourn his loss three daughters and two sons: Mrs. E. C. Rawson and Mrs. H. M. Eaton, of this place, and Miss Mabel Gilchrist, who teaches at Fairdale, Ill. Dan of Globeville, Mich., and Charles Malcom, of this place, and one brother, Chas. Gilchrist, of Fairdale, Ill. Funeral services occurred at the Dr. Eaton home Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. W. H. Smith. The services at the grave were under the auspices of the Masons of which he was a member.
