Elkader Register, Thur., 06 May 1920. Volga column.
Ruth Kewley was born Dec. 6, 1853, near Peoria, Ill., where she lived with her parents until the age of 15 years, when her mother died leaving the rearing of her four younger brothers and sisters in her care. At the age of 19 she was united in marriage to Mr. John Meyers, of that place and to this union were born four children. In the year 1884 they moved to Volga City, Iowa where the remainder of their children were born and reared. She leaves to mourn her loss, the husband and seven children. Bert Meyers, of Volga, Peter Meyers of Volga, Mrs. Lizzie Swett, of Lakefield, Minn.; Eli Meyer, West Union, Iowa; James Meyers, Volga, Iowa; Mrs. Jessie Page, Vermilion, S. Dak.; and Clifton Meyers of Racine, Wis. Also, one brother Eli Kewley, Orange City, Iowa and two sisters Orpha Russell Burlington, Iowa Hattie Dennison, Rock Falls, Ill. and four grandchildren, besides a host of friends. In her early life she was closely associated with the M.E. church in which she was baptized. She was always a firm believer in God and her children were reared accordingly. In her passing we keenly feel the loss of a loving wife and mother. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Rev. G. H. Heiserman officiated. Interment in Hill Crest cemetery, on Tuesday May 4th 1920.
(Note: The surname Meyer/Meyers was spelled both ways in the article, as shown.)
