Alice E. Monlux
Funeral services for Alice E. Monlux, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday November 7, 2001, at First Congregational Church in Elkader with Rev. William Gentry II officiating. Burial will be in the Wagner Township cemetery, rural St. Olaf. Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader is in charge of arrangements.
She was born in Clayton Center, Iowa July 18, 1906. the daughter of August and Minna (Rieckhoff) Mahnke. She graduated from Farmersburg High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College earning a teachers certificate. She taught in rural schools until her marriage to Milton Monlux in 1938. The couple lived on a farm near Gunder until they moved to Elkader in about 1949.
Mrs. Monlux was active in many clubs such as Coterie, Bridge Club and the Elkader County Club among others. She was an active and faithful member of the First Congregational Church in Elkader. She worked as an assessor for Clayton county and for many years was a clerk for Theis Clothing Store since May 1996 and has been a resident of Elkader Care Center. She died Saturday night November 3, 2001, at the Elkader Care Center, following a long illness. She is lovingly remembered by family and friends.
She is survived by her niece Dorothy (Dahlstrom) Gronlund and her husband Dr. Robert Gronlund of West Palm Beach Florida. Three great nieces, Gaye Gronlund, Robin Willis and Jamie Goodman; and a great nephew, Greg Gronlund.
She was preceded in death by her husband Milton Monlux, as well as two sisters, Mahelia Dahlstrom and Olga Oelke, and two brothers, Elmer Mahnke and Harvey Mahnke.
