Knudte Knudson Houg was born in Aal Prestejald, Hallingdal, Norway, Aug. 1st, 1838. There he was baptized and confirmed. At the age of nineteen he came to this country and settled down in Marion township, Clayton county, Iowa. He was married in 1865 to Sidsel Christianson, who died April 25, 1904, and this marriage was blessed with six children, of whom Carl, the oldest, died in his youth.
Knudte Houg had been quite sick several times and three weeks ago his last sickness came to end his life on earth on the evening of Mar. 1, 1920. He died quietly and peacefully in the faith of the Lord at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P. Peterson, where he spent his last years.
He was buried Mar. 3, 1920 at Gunder church cemetery., beside his esteemed wife.
He leaves to mourn his departure five children, Christian, Mrs. P. Peterson, Ole, Mrs. Thov Kjosa and Mrs. Otto Kjosa, besides seventeen grandchildren.
His pastor, Rev. Arveson, who had visited him while he was sick officiated at the house and at the church and at the grave.
