Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Mar. 1920.
Sophia Wittenberg Kamin was born in Mecklenberg-Schwerin, Germany on January 8th, 1842 where she was united in marriage to Frederick Kamin.
In 1872 they migrated to America, making their home in Clayton county on a farm in Boardman township, which in those days meant hard work and much privation, but she was patient and did the best she could.
On November 23rd, 1909 the grim reaper of death parted them, leaving her a widow. From that time on she has been making her home with her only daughter, Mrs. Wm. J. Schmidt, near St. Olaf.
After a lingering illness of some time, she quietly passed from all earthly scenes at 10 o'clock p.m., on February 18, 1920. She had reached the age of 78 years, 1 month and 8 days.
She leaves to mourn besides her daughter and son-in-law, 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Henry Haman of Luana, besides a multitude of more distant relatives and friends.
Mrs. Kamin was a kind, indulgent mother and grandmother, a true friend and neighbor, ever ready to help those in need.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 21st, Rev. Athenstadt officiating.
Rest in peace dear mother,
Free from toil and pain,
Save within thy Savior's Arms,
Until we meet again.
