Elizabeth Ostermann Voss was born in Meppen, Germany, Sept. 17, 1842. She came to America in the fall of 1871 and was married to Henry Voss Feb. 6, 1872. They lived on a farm in Jefferson township and later moved on a farm in Volga township. In 1900 they retired and moved to Garber. After living in town six years the family sustained a great loss, when the husband and father passed away after a year of illness.

Mrs. Voss was a strong and hearty worker and in good health until a few years ago when health failed her and on feb. 12, she fell and broke her hip which caused her great pain until her death which occurred on Feb. 17, 1920 at 3 o'clock in the morning at the age of 77 years, 5 months. She leaves to mourn her death 7 children: Henry, Herman, Joe, Ben and Lizzie of Garber, Fred of Elkport, Anna of Seattle, Wash., and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held in St. Michael's church on Tuesday, Feb. 19, interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Elkport.
