Mrs. John Toutsch, nee Altha Catherine Atwood, daughter of Alexander B. and Sarah J. Atwood, was born in Read township November 26, 1867 and there she grew to womanhood. In 1888 deceased joined St. Joseph's church and on Feb. 14th, the same year she was united in marriage to John Toutsch.
To this union five children were born, three of which died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, and two daughters, Mesdames John Jungblut and Henry Barghahn besides four grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Al. Cook, a brother, Alvah Atwood of Sioux Falls, S.D. and a host of friends.
Mrs. Toutsch passed to her reward Saturday morning aged past 52 years. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Joseph's church conducted by Father Taken assisted by Father McNamara of Monona, and Father Heatherington of Volga City, and her remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
The following from out of town attended her funeral, viz: Her brother, Alvah Atwood, Henry Toutsch, Minot, N. Dak., Miss Mary Flavin, Austin, Minn., Mrs. John Hennes, Dubuque, Mr. and Merrill Hennes, Dubuque, Chas. Lei, Dubuque, Harvey Toutsch, Fayette.
