Mrs. Dorothea Wilke, nee Laudon, was born Feb. 20, 1845 in Guetz, province of Mecklenberg in Germany. In the land of her birth she was baptized and confirmed and in 1860 she emigrated to America with her parents, and in Clayton Centre they sought a new home.
On April 28, 1866 she was united in marriage with Friedrich Wilhelm Wilke, and this union of forty-three years was one of undivided joy and happiness. Mr. Wilke died in January, 1909. The closing years of her life were spent in the quiet home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. F. C. Mueller and family, until Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1920, when she closed her eyes in eternal slumber. This union was blessed with 14 children, 7 of which preceded her in eternity. The surviving ones are: Mrs. Alvina Mueller in Wagner, Mrs. Louise Mandelkow in Red Wing, Minn., Mrs. Sophie Mueller in Read, Heinrich and Fritz in St. Olaf, August of Boardman and Mrs. Pauline Palas in Dalingfort, Canada, also 33 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her age was 74 years, 10 months and 24 days.
