Chas. Reinitz passed away Wednesday forenoon after a lingering illness of almost half a year. Death was due to the consequences of pneumonia. Deceased was born in 1844 in Germany, came when a young man to this country and located in the states of Illinois and Colorado, and later settled on a farm in Jefferson township. He was married in 1874, at Ceres, to his surviving wife. He is mourned by eight sons and one daughter: Charles, of Minnesota, Herman, of Humbolt, S.D., Edward, of Dubuque; Gustave, Louis, Henry, Rudolph and Theodore, of this town, and Mrs. Wm. Aulwes, of Jefferson township; also by one brother, C. Reinitz, of Philadelphia. The funeral took place Saturday afternoon, Rev. W. K. Braun, of Garnavillo, officiating, with burial in the city cemetery according to the rites of the Odd Fellow lodge, of which deceased was an honored member. Charles Reinitz was a kind husband and father, deservedly esteemed as a citizen and held the office of township assessor for several terms. After a period of many years of successful farming he retired and moved with his family into his residence on first street, previously erected.
