Mrs, James Humphrey, of Monona passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 12th, at six o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John McLaughlin, in this city. She came here just four weeks ago to visit her daughter and her son James and other relatives and on Sunday last was taken sick and sank rapidly to the end. She was about eighty-four years old.
Katherine O'Leary was born in County Kerry, Ireland, and came to this country when about twelve years of age. She lived in St. Louis, Mo., for a number of years, coming to Monona early in 1855. On July 20th of that year she was united in marriage with James Humpphrey, of Monona, and that has been her home ever since.
Seven children were born to them of whom five, Mrs. Jerry McCarthy, of Chillicothe, Mo', Mrs. John McLaughlin, of Elkader, Miss Ellen, at home; Michael, of Mason City, and James, of Elkader, with a adopted daughter, Mrs. E. E. Beers, of Elkader, survive to mourn her decease and honor her memory. Besides these there are twenty grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One son, Richard, one daughter, Katherine, and her husband have preceded her to the great beyond. Mr. Humphrey's death occurred Jan. 1st, 1907.
Deceased was a kind friend, a good neighbor, a devoted wife and mother, who will be greatly missed by her many relatives and friends. Her remains were taken to the old home at Monona this afternoon and the funeral will be held there at ten o'clock Saturday morning, solemn high mass being celebrated by Rev. Father Hogan, Rev. Father Reilly and others. Interment will be in the cemetery at Monona.
