Died at the home of his son John at Gladbrook, Ia., Reimer Henrich Rohde, who was born in Lunden, Germany, March 3rd, 1834 and died Nov. 3rd, 1908, after an illness of three weeks.

Mr. Rohde was married to Margretha Nichols February 17th, 1860 and lived in the old country until the year of 1869, when he and his wife with their five little children started for and arrived in America after a voyage on an old sailing vessel of 49 days.

They settled at Garnavillo, Clayton Co., Ia., where seven more children came to bless the union, two of whom preceded him in death many years ago, one daughter Anna and one son William, also his beloved wife who preceded him in death one year ago, November 21st.

He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran church and a firm believer in the same, in the salvation of man and redeeming Christ. He had an exemplary moral character, industrious and honest, kind hearted and charitable, ever faithful and hard working. Mr. Rohde came to this country in early days and endured many a hardship in raising a large family depending wholly on his daily earnings for their support.

His remains were sent back to his old home in Garnavillo. Funeral services were held at the St. Peter's church. His five sons who were present and his nephew, Mates Stamen of this city acted as pall bearers. Interment was made in the old cemetery.

He leaves to mourn his death ten children and one sister, Mrs. Peter Sieroks. The children are the following: Claus F., Springvalley, Minn.; August F., Elma, Ia.; Mrs. Adam Baker, Des Moines, Ia.; John H., Gadbrook, Ia.; R. Fred Springvalley, Minn.; Christopher R., Waterloo, Ia.; Dr. Emma K., Woodsochett, Ia.; Julius H., Montour, Ia.; Louisa C., Dysart, Ia.; Adeline E., Monour, Ia. All but Claus and Emma were present at the funeral.
