Mary Elizabeth Childress was born in Muscoda, Wis., June 20th, 1845, and died Jan. 21, 1915. She came to Clayton, Iowa, in 1866 with her parents and on May 26th was united in marriage to Peter William Beckett, of Clayton. They lived in Prairie du Chien, Wis., for two years and in 1870 moved onto the farm three miles northeast of Clayton where they have resided ever since.
To this union six children were born, namely: Charley E., of Elizabeth, Ill.; Ellen S. Beaty, Blanding, Ill.; William H., Glen Haven, Wis.; Samuel, at home; Annie, died in infancy, and Lizzie B. Skinner, Glen Haven, Wis. Besides the children, her husband and thirteen grandchildren are left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. She was interested in her home and family, always ready and willing to help in sickness and trouble.
Funeral services were held Sunday noon at the home, Rev. Hoffman officiating, and interment was in Clayton cemetery.
