Register and Argus, 14 Jan. 1915. Gunder and Vicinity column.
August Johnson was born in Vermelen, Sweden, February 9th,1844, and died January 1st, 1915, at Gunder, Iowa. In the year 1871 he was married in Sweden and a few years later emigrated to this country, residing at St. Paul, Minn., for two years and at Stoughton, Wis., for one year, the remainder of his life being spent in this vicinity. Mr. Johnson was a faithful member and regular attendant of the Lutheran church here and his passing is greatly grieved by his brethren. It can also be said of him that he was a man of many fine parts, a good citizen, honorable and upright in all his acts and dealings. About three weeks ago he was taken sick with pneumonia and passed away as before stated and on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 5th, he was laid to rest in the Marion cemetery, Rev. Arvesen officiating. He is survived by his wife, two brothers and several other relatives. The numerous friends extend their heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing ones.
