Elkader Register, 18 Mar. 1885.

On Wednesday last at the home of his son-in-law, John Stence, of this township, occurred the death of Martin Brazil*, the result of accidental poisoning. He has been in feeble health for a long time, and had some medicine which he was taking. A bottle of aconite was sitting near the medicine, and Mr. Brazil's eyesight being poor he took a teaspoonful of the latter in place of his medicine. He soon developed unmistakable signs of poisoning, and although doctors were immediately summoned, his death followed in a few hours. Mr. Brazil was a native of Ireland, having been born at Thurless, county Tipperary, and at the time of his death was a little over 84 years of age. He came to the United States in 1832 and in 1841 located in Clayton county, where he resided continuously until the time of his death. His wife died some years ago, but he leaves three children, Mrs. John Stence, of this township; John Brazil, of Dakota, and Mrs. Lawrence McDermott, of LuVerne, Minn., to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent parent. The funeral occurred on Friday last, and was largely attended by friends and neighbors of the deceased, and his remains were laid away to their final rest in the Catholic cemetery at this place. May he rest in peace.

Elkader Register, 25 Mar. 1885.

In our obituary of Martin Brazil, we were in error stating that his wife was dead. She survives him, and is making her home with her son-in-law, Mr. John Stence, of this township. We are also informed that Mr. Brazil leaves over 100 children and grandchildren to mourn their bereavement.
