Elkader Register, 18 Mar. 1885.

DIED - At the home of W. H. Benedict in Sperry township, Mr. Andrew Martin, aged 101 years. Mr. Martin was one of the survivors of the war of 1812, and at the time of taking the census in 1880, was the oldest person in Sperry township. He leaves an aged wife and other relatives to mourn his death. For a long time before he died he was a great sufferer but he bore all his pain with patience. He was a kind husband and father, and an excellent citizen and neighbor.
