Elkader Register, 14 Jan. 1885.
On Monday morning, January 12th, occurred the death of Mrs. Xavier Lamm, of this place, after a long sickness with that most to be dreaded of all diseases, consumption. Mrs. Lamm has been suffering from this disease for a long time, and in hopes of regaining her health, went to Texas to try the warm climate of the south, and finding no relief, she came to Elkader, with her family last fall, in order to be among her friends to the last. All that loving hearts and medical skill could do to relieve her sufferings was done, but to no avail, and she has passed into tthe mysterious land beyond the grave, where no suffering is known.
Mrs. Lamm was a daughter of Mr. J. B. Shelhamer, of this place, and was 32 years of age.
She leaves a kind and loving husband, and two little children, a son and daughter to mourn her death.
During her long sickness she has borne her sufferings without complaint. She had many friends here who will greatly regret to learn of her death, and who will extend their heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon at two o'clock, and was quite largely attended. Her remains were laid away to their final rest in the east side cemetery. "After life's fitful fever she sleeps well."
(Note: See the obit of her husband, where she is named Rosalia B.)
