Wed., 10 Aug. 1910 issue of the "McGregor News," Obituary section, page 5, column 4:

Died—Gustav Wehler Saturday, August 7th [sic], at the age of 71 years. The remains of Gustav Wehler were brought here from Independence, his death occured Saturday, August 6th [sic] at the hospital where he had been taken a few weeks ago. The remains were taken to the family home at West McGregor where services were held Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Horst, of Dubuque.

Deceased had been a constant sufferer and had been confined to his home since an accident twelve years ago.

Mr. Wehler was born in Germany, March 31, 1839 and at the age of sixteen years came to America, the family of seven children, four sons and three daughters and one sister survives the deceased. He was a resident of McGregor for over thirty five years. On July 16th [sic: no year] he was united in marriage to Regina Shephard at Guttenberg, and to this union were born ten children, five of whom with the faithful wife survive, they are Louis and Anna at home, Gustav of Pochantas [sic], Iowa, Fred and Herman of Algona, Iowa, who were all present at the funeral.

From the Wed., 20 July 1910 issue of the "McGregor News," City News section, page 5, column 6: Dr. Patterson, Max Bishop, W. W. Davidson and Martin Dittmer of Elkader were here last week on the case of Gustav Wehler who was committed to the hospital at Independence.
