Former McGregorite Dies from Burns
Mrs. Regina Wehler died at her home in Pocahontas Thursday, September 11, from burns which she suffered Tuesday morning when a boiler of hot water which accidentally upset as she was moving it toward the edge of the stove. Her daughters, Miss Anna Wehler, was doing the family laundry and was outside hanging out clothes when the accident occurred. Mrs. Wehler was severely burned on the left side and over both hips. Had she lived she would have been 96 years old September 15. Despite her age she was very active up until the time of the accident.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at Rudolph & McIntire Funeral home with the Rev. A. C. Long, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge of the services. Burial was made in Summit Hill cemetery [at Pocahontas]. Pallbearers were Sam Greenwood, Al Schultz, C. W. Gilchrist, O. P. Malcolm, Charles Battershell and D. U. Strong.
Regina Shepherd, daughter of William and Louise Shepherd, was born September 15, 1845, in Ohio. She was united in marriage to Gustav Wehler July 16, 1862, at Buckcreek [sic], Clayton county, Iowa. They lived at McGregor about 45 years and twenty years ago the family moved to Pocahontas. Mr. Wehler died in 1910.
She leaves three children, Louis, and Anna of Pocahontas, and Herman Wehler [sic] of Fairmont, Minn., besides eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wehler of Fairmont, Minn., Emil R. Wehler of Fairmont, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Melzer Falkenheiner of Algona.
