Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Nov. 1880.
On last Saturday morning occurred the death of another of the old citizens of Clayton county, Mrs. Rhonna Howard having died of pluersy, at the advanced age of 70 years.
Mrs. Howard was one of the early settlers of this part of the county, and was known and highly respected by all. She was the mother of Freedom, Hosea and John Howard.
The funeral occurred on last Sunday at this place, Rev. Gifford officiating, and the remains were followed to their final resting place by many of the citizens, and friends and relatives.
Thus all our early settlers, those to whom our county owes its prosperity, are like the autumn leaves, fast falling by the wayside, and going to their long home, where they shall rest in peace, from the cares and turmoil of the busy world. May she rest in peace.

Wife of Jacob Howard, who died 1864. Researchers should verify that she was the mother of Freedom Howard.
