Alvin Marting

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona for Alvin H. Marting with Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiating. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Evanston, Illinois.

Alvin H. Marting was born June 7, 1891 in Monona Township, Clayton County. He was the oldest son of Henry G. and Anna (Meier) Marting. He was baptized on August 22, 1891 in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church at Garnavillo by Rev. F. Sommerlad. He received his education at School # 4, Monona Township. Palm Sunday, April 16, 1905 he was confirmed by Rev. William Paulson at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana.

Alvin and Ruth L. Zipprich of Chicago, IL were married June 30, 1937 at the First German Methodist Church, Chicago by H. C. Loeppert, Pastor. He joined the Methodist Church in Monona on Easter, April 16, 1938 while G. W. Turner was pastor.

Farming was Alvin's vocation from 1913 until he sold the farm in 1969. Alvin and Ruth moved to their home in Monona in 1950.

Alvin was active in the Watson Old Stone Church for over 40 years, he was a past director of Monona Commission Company, the Monona Telephone Company, the United Methodist Church of Monona and trustee of Luana Lutheran Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth on September 16, 1984, a sister Mrs. Alvin (Adalia) Vogt, 3 brothers, Orlando, Milton and Vern.

Surviving are 2 brothers, Harvey of Monona and Elmer of Postville, nieces and nephews.
