Elkader Register, Thur., 27 Oct. 1898. Strawberry Point column.
At the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Gleason, near Strawberry Point, Wednesday morning Oct. 19, 1898, occurred the death of Mrs. Hattie Bacon, aged 36 years, 3 months and 18 days. Mrs. Hattie May Gleason Bacon was born at Shabbona, De Kalb Co., Ill., June 30, 1862. When two years of age she moved with her parents to this place where she has since resided. She was married to George F. Bacon Sept. 19, 1882. She has been confined to her bed from July until the time of her death and suffering from that dreaded disease consumption. Loving hands, both of parents, family and friend did all they could for her, administering to every want, trying to delay the end which they knew must come sooner or later.
She at first dreaded leaving her family to the stern realities of a cold, unfriendly world, but faith again triumphed, and she committed her husband and each dear child to the merciful care of her beloved Saviour. Her home is shrouded in gloom and the cloud of sorrow fills the hearts of her many friends. She was a member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge and her presence will be missed by all, as she attended whenever her health would let her. She leaves to mourn her loss a father, mother, two sisters, one brother, husband and five children, the youngest child about 3 months old. The funeral was held at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Gleason Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Lusk.
