Elkader Register, Thur., 19 May 1898.

Mary Anna Kann, wife of Wm. Kann, died at the home of her son-in-law, Wm. Uriell, in Read twp., on Tuesday evening May 17th, at about six o'clock, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 8 days. She was born in Germany Sept. 9th, 1824. She has been a resident of this county for forty-two years, on a farm in Jefferson township until one year ago when the aged couple moved to Read township to be with their daughter, Mrs. Uriell. With the surviving husband, three sons, Fred W., Joseph J., and Hubert, and two daughters, Mrs. Herman Schoulte and Mrs. William Uriell are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and beloved mother. The funeral will be held Friday from the Catholic church at Garnavillo, the interment to be in the Kann cemetery.
