DIED - April 24th, 1898, Charles W. Menge, aged 76 years. The deceased was born May 22, 1822 in Aenbeck, Hanover. He emigrated to America in 1851 and located in the town of Guttenberg. In the year 1857 he moved on a farm in Volga twp., where he remained until the year 1881 when he moved into Elkport and has resided here until his death. Mr. Menge was one of our oldest and most respected citizens. He was a hard student and was well posted on all current events. He was an honest and upright man. He leaves a wife, two sons, August and Louis of Elkport, and six girls, Dora Mueller, of Boardman twp.; Ida Irish, in Florida; Emma Junge, Keystone, Ia.; Anna Welterlin, Manchester; Lizzie Diebach, Council Bluffs; Mary Hoake, Dysert, Ia, The funeral took place Wednesday and was very largely attended. Rev. Hansel officiating. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction.
