Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Apr. 1898. Garnavillo columns.

On Tuesday morning at 1 o'clock, occurred the death of F. H. Dickman of this township at his home, after an illness of only a few days. His death was the direct result of a paralytic stroke, and he was unconscious the greater part of the day preceding his death, rallying only long enough to breathe the words, "Praise God, mine are cared for," when he sank to rest.

Frederick Henry Dickman was born in Hanover, Germany, on March 31, 1823. Here he grew to manhood and learned the cabinet maker's trade, and as is the custom, traveled through the greater part of Germany, working at his trade.

In 1848 Mr. Dickman came to America, coming first to Cincinnati, Ohio, and later to New Bremen, Ohio. He did not remain here long, and in 1849 came to Garnavillo, settling on a farm, which was his home up to the time of his demise. On June 16, 1853, he was married to Rosine Thoma with whom he has lived for nearly forty-five years in a loving union. Five children are left to mourn his death; namely Sabine, now married to George Mueller, of Grinter, Kansas; Elise, wife of Herman Shierholz, of Monona twp.; Pauline, wife of Herman Kregel, of Monona twp., and William and Henry, both of whom are living on the home place in Garnavillo twp. Mr. Dickman was buried in Garnavillo on Thursday, April 7, Rev. Sommerlad officiating.

As a father and husband, Mr. Dickman was of a disposition to make all love him, and the number of friends from far and near, who attended his funeral, testified of the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him.

To the mourning widow and sons and daughters we can say that there is One alone who can comfort them, and who can heal the broken hearted, and to Him they should turn in this hour of their bereavement.
