Elkader Register, Fri., 04 Mar. 1898.
On Friday, Feb. 25th, 1898, at her home in Boardman township, occurred the death of Maria, beloved wife of Edward C. Rogers, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ivory, of Cox Creek twp., aged about 24 years.
These few lines tell the sad story that death has invaded another home where a happy young couple entered only a little two years with everything bright before them. Now the relentless angel of death has changed this to a scene of sorrow, and a number of hearts and homes are burdened with grief and sadness. We know something of this experience, and while deeply sympathizing with the bereaved ones can only express the hope that God may in His infinite grace bind up the bruised hearts and afford them some consolation.
The funeral was held last Sunday at St. Joseph's church, of which the departed was a faithful member, the services being conducted by Rev. Father Reilly and largely attended by friends who sought in this manner to attest their sympathy with the mourning families.
