Added by S. Ferrall:

Last week it was our painful duty to chronicle the death of Mr. C.J. Knight, which occurred Tuesday, Feb. 8, 1898. Mr. Knight had been sick about two weeks when his wife was taken quite ill. She grew worse, and at the time of Mr. Knight's burial, it was believed she would not long survive him. These predictions were realized, for on last Saturday morning, Feb. 12, 1898, Mrs. Knight followed her devoted husband to the spirit land.

Margaret A. Jacobs was born Mar. 12, 1831 in Huntington county, Pa. At the age of 19, she was married to A.W. Dripps in Hollidaysburg, Pa., March 1850. In May, 1851 they came to Garnavillo, this county, where Mr. Dripps engaged in the newspaper business. When the civil war broke out, Mr. Dripps was conducting the 'Maquoketa Excelsior'. He at once organized a company, and as Captain Dripps, marched away to help preserve us a nation. He was killed in the battle of Pea Ridge in 1862.

In 1865 deceased was again united in marriage with C.K. Knight [sic], of McGregor, where they have since lived. The funeral took place Monday, Feb. 14, under the auspices of the Woman's Relief Corps of which she was a member. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Ferguson of the M.E. church, to which church deceased was a consistent member.

The death of these two in so short a time, removes from us a couple universally loved and respected by all, both young and old. When it was said of Mr. Knight, "he was a good man," we can say of Mrs. Knight "she was a good woman". In their every day lives, they exemplified their profession of true christianity. They lived what they professed, and all who knew them became impressed with the spirit of the religion that had been their comfort through life and even in the trying ordeal of death, it did not desert them. Any community is the richer by having such people in their midst, and are made poorer by their death.

Mrs. Knight leaves two brothers out of a family of eleven children, V.D. Jacobs, formerly of our city, now of New Hampton, and Carolina B. Jacobs*, of Hollidaysburg, Pa.
