Added by S. Ferrall:

Again the roll has been called and one of our old settlers answered to his name after a long siege of suffering. Henry Wiegand, departed this life Feb. 8, 1898, aged 79 yr. 11 mo. and 14 days.

He was born March 22, 1818 in Kreis, Hamberg Hessen Kassel Germany. In 1846 he married Katharina Elizabeth nee Helwig and in 1857 they came to this country and landed in McGregor July 11. Since that time he has lived in this vicinity enjoying the respect of all who knew him.

For nearly five years he has been suffering more or less, the result of a paraletic stroke, but the last two years he was almost helpless.

Everything possible was done to give him relief and the best of care was given him but nothing could keep the death messenger away and last Tuesday he departed for his upper and better home. He was a member of the German M.E. church since 1871.

Father Wiegand leaves his aged wife, who shared for 52 years joy and sadness with him, one daughter and four sons, besides many relatives and friends to mourn his departure. May the good Lord grant a glorious reunion in our Father's house above.
