At the residence of his father, at McGregor, Iowa, February 26th, 1859, Edwin Dayton Gilchrist, aged about 30 years.

His urbanity of manners, business tact, and strict integrity of purpose, won for him warm and devoted friends at the north-west. He struggled with that fell disease, that scourge of the human race, Consumption, for nearly a year, and died with the fortitude of a man, and the faith of a christian.

-Enumerated on the 1850 U.S. census, age 21, living with his parents William and Ann R. Gilcrist in Charlton, Saratoga, NY
-E. Dayton Gilchrist has a gravestone in Evergreen cemetery, Prairie du Chien, WI
