Elkader Register, Fri., 14 Feb. 1896. Giard column.

Grandpa Steele, who for past years has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. D. F. Bickel, quietly passed to the haven of rest last Saturday night. He reached the good old age of 85 years and are one of Clayton county's pioneer settlers. His funeral took place Tuesday.

(Note: WPA records indicate Solomon Steel, 84y - 09 Feb. 1896, buried in Giard cemetery.)
