Elkader Register, Fri., 14 Feb. 1896. Giard column.

The funeral of Rev. F. J. Buelhmeyer occurred at the M.E. church on Wednesday, Feb. 5th, at 2 p.m., Rev. W. V. Schlung officiating. A large concourse of friends were present to give their last token of respect to one who had won an affectionate place in the hearts of all who knew him. Rev. F. J. Buelhmeyer was born April 26th, 1865, in Ernsbach, Oberamt Oehrngen, Wurtemburg, Germany. His mother died there Jan. 4th, 1876. He came to this country in Sept., 1884 with his farther and younger brother, his elder brother having come across in July of the same year. They located here in Giard and in the winter of 1886 he was converted. Feeling the call to the ministry, he attended the G. E. College at Galena, Ills., 3 years, having charge of the congregation at Tomah, Wis., during the vacation in 1891. The N.W. German conference sent him to the Watertown Misson in South Dakota, where he labored with much success for 2 years. While on the mission, he had several hemorrhages of the lungs, but thinking them not serious he kept up preaching. The third year of his labor he was sent to Wilmot and Summit Mission, S.D., having a part of the Indian Reservation. Here the hardships of his work were too severe on his physical strength and he was compelled to give up the work he loved dearer than his life. Following the advice of several physicians, he spent last winter and spring in Tennessee and Florida, but derived no benefit for his health. The last summer months he spent here in Giard, making his home with Mrs. J. Hartwick. On the 5th of last Dec., he left here and went to his cousin, Rev. G. Haefner, at Klemmie, where he received the tenderest care till death relieved him, Feb. 2, 1896, his age being 30 years, 9 months and 6 days. He chose the text for his funeral sermon; it may be found in Phillippians, Chap. 1, verse 21. (For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain). He leaves an aged father and two brothers to mourn his death, the oldest of his brothers, L. C. Buehlmeyer is minister in the N.W. German Conference, stationed at the Watertown Mission, Castle Wood, South Dakota.

Rev. L. C. Buelhmeyer wishes to thank the many friends who so kindly assisted him in the burial of his dear brother.

(Note: WPA records indicate, F. J. Buehlmeyer, 1868 - 02 Feb. 1896, buried in Giard cemetery.)
