Elkader Register, Fri., 17 Jan. 1896.
Patrick Reilly, the aged father of Rev. J. F. Reilly, died at the Parochial residence Wednesday morning, Jan. 15th, 1896. He had been in poor health for some time past, and was brought to Elkader about two months since in hopes the change might be for the better, but old age and disease has conquered, in spite of medical skill and the loving and tender care of his children. Mr. Reilly was a native of Ireland, and 77 years old at the time of his death. He emigrated to America in 1853, marrying here in 1854. He first settled at Ashtabula, Ohio, but removed to Kentucky where the family remained until after the Civil War, when they came to Buchanan County, Iowa, and engaged in farming. Mrs. Reilly died July 17th, 1870, and a daughter Mary, Sister Anastasia, in religion, died Dec. 23, 1877. Five children survive to mourn the loss of a affectionate father, Rev. J. F. Reilly, Thomas, Margaret, Catherine and Bridget. They have the sympathy of all our people in their sad bereavement.
Solemn requiem mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's this Friday morning at 10 o'clock, when the presence of many friends and priests are expected. The remains will then be taken to Elgin and thence by rail to his late home in Buchanan County, and will be laid away Saturday beside those of is wife in the cemetery in Buffalo parish. May he rest in peace.
