Veryl Louis Williams of Edgewood, Iowa, died peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2011, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 3, 1924 in Greeley, the son of Ray Joe "Jack" and Ella (Clute) Williams. He was raised and educated in the area, until moving to Guttenberg when he was in the eighth grade.

Veryl served honorably in the United States Army during World War II.

On April 30, 1949, he was united in marriage to Betty Perrinjaquet at the Little Brown Church in Nasha. Together they resided in Edgewood. Veryl was a truck driver driving for Elk Ready Mix for many years and retired in 1985. Veryl also was very active in the AA program for many years.

Veryl loved his family and his legacy to them was his enjoyment of hunting fishing and golfing. He was a regular attendee at the Edgewood Bible Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Williams of Edgewood; their four children Al (Linda) Williams of Edgewood, Wendy (Russell) Holroyd of Manchester, Jill (Pete) Buschmann of Manchester, and Jeff (Karm) Williams of Delhi; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maxine Stevens of Downers Grove, Illinois.

Veryl was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, R.J. Williams and his twin brother Meryl.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Edgewood Bible Church. Officiating was Pastor Mike Jackson. Veryl generously donated his body to the University of Iowa Hospitals for medical research. Military Rites by the Edgewood American Legion Post #512 and the Iowa Honor Guard.
