Joseph W. Trayer, 84, of Garnavillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at his home in Garnavillo, after a long illness.

He was born May 12, 1919, in Mason City, to Joseph M. and Grace (Worth) Trayer.

Joe attended St. Joseph's grade school and high school in Mason City; served his country in the Army during World War II; and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 37 1/2 years.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Mae (Gull) Trayer; one daughter Jacquelyn (Lyle) Malmberg of Hugo, Minn.; one step-daughter, Beverly (Joseph) Sullivan of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister, Sister-Helen Wisner of Mason City; two grandchildren ,Debbie (Martin) Paralles of Santa Fe, N.M. and Scott (Leitha) Malmberg of Woodbury, Minn.; four step-grandchildren, Robin, Ryan, Sam and Sarah Sullivan of Anchorage, Alaska; eight nephews and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; two sisters, Fern Rethwisch and Evely Schaper.

Joe donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

There will be no visitation and memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service Garnavillo.
