Con Schumacher died at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, after an operation had been performed, May 6, 1895, at the age of 63 years and 5 months. He was born in Niederrandtheim, Hessen, Germany, and came to this country in 1850. He went to California in 1855 and returned to Clayton County in 1862. In 1868 he was married to Miss Linton, who died a few years since. Besides his son Allen he leaves a sister, Mrs. Henning, and a brother, Andrew Schumacher. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 8th, from the home of J. Harvey to Garnavillo, conducted by the Masons assisted by Rev. Sommerlad.

Buried Garnavillo Community cemetery. His inscription is on a large HENNING gravestone, where he is named "Uncle Conrad".
