Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Mar. 1895.
On Thursday, March 7, occurred the death of John Perry, at his home four miles west of Elkader. He was born at Llanfyllin, Wales, June 15, 1809, being 85 years old at the time of his death. He was married to Jane Humphreys in 1840 and a few years later came to America, settling at Utica, N.Y. In 1854 he came westward and settled on the farm where he resided up to the time of his death. His family consisted of twelve children, nine of whom survive him. The eldest son, John, has resided in Sodaville, Nevada, since 1866. Mrs. V. D. Jacobs resides at New Hampton; Mrs. Geo. Clark, Rosalia, Wash.; Mrs. Robt. Sherman, West Union; Wm., Sacramento, Cal.; Mrs. A. C. Krieg, Minneapolis; Chas. W. resides on the old homestead; Mrs. Fred Alderson, Osborne, and G. H., of Cedar Rapids. Edward, the second son, died while serving in the late war, which he entered at the early age of 15 years. Mr. and Mrs. Perry were both taken with la grippe about two weeks ago. Her condition at the time of his death was critical. She is now improving.
Mr. Perry's funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the East Side church, Rev. F. Fisk conducting the services. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors to pay their last respects to an honorable, industrious citizen, who after a residence of forty-one years in our midst lays down the cares of life and departs to the regret and the regard of all. His work is finished.
