Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Mar. 1895.
Only a short time has elapsed since we announced the death of John Finley. Now it is our sorrowful task to chronicle the death of Agnes Scully Foran, his wife, at their late home in Highland twp., on March 9th. She was born at Mt. Mellick, County Queens, Ireland, in 1820, coming to this county (country ??) in 1849, and finally to Clayton County sometime in 1860. Both Mr. and Mrs. Finley have fallen victims to the grippe, the latter, after the departure of her consort of many years, seeming to welcome the grim messenger that bade her join the friends on the other shore. She leaves one son, James Foran, of Read twp., two brothers, Michael and Peter Soully (Scully ??), and one sister, Mrs. Kennedy, of Highland twp., and many friends to mourn her death. Strange are the ways of Him who has called so near together the husband and wife and the sister, (Mrs. Glennon).
The funeral was held Saturday morning at St. Joseph's, being conducted by Rev. Father Reilly, and attended by a large concourse of friends of the family.
