Alva Boyd Atwood, a life-long resident of this community, died Wednesday morning, May 19, at five o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Luetta Rothlisberger, with whom he had been making his home for the past five years.
Mr. Atwood was the son of Alexander Atwood and his wife Sarah, nee Patterson, and was born at Clayton Center on March 24, 1865. He reached the age of 72 years, one month and 25 days.
The deceased graduated from the school in Boardman township. Mr. Atwood farmed his entire life.
In the year 1895 Mr. Atwood was united in marriage to Diea E. Hamlett. His wife preceded him in death.
The following children mourn his departure: Flora J. Hahn, Marquette; Florence M. Moore, Elver B. Atwood, Sarah L. Carstens, Viva F. Cadwell, Chester M. Atwood - all of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Luetta P. Rothlisberger of Elkader; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held last Thursday from the Home Service Funeral Home. Burial was made in the Patterson cemetery in Wagner township, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
