Lloyd Fuelling Dies in Auto Crash Sunday
Two Others Are Seriously Injured Also
Cars Collide In Fog On Primary No. 13 Near Its Junction with U. S. Highway No. 52
Lloyd Fuelling, 19, of Farmersburg, was fatally injured, and Alvin Walter, 23, also of Farmersburg, and Harvey Bush, 27, of St. Olaf, were more or less seriously injured when two cars collided head-on on Primary No. 13, about a mile south of the junction with No. 52, last Sunday morning at one-thirty.
Fuelling and Walter were riding in the one car and Bush in the other, driving in the heavy fog that prevailed that morning. Apparently both cars were traveling on the center of the highway and, because of the fog, neither driver could see the other car approaching.
Fuelling was taken to a hospital in McGregor, where he died the same morning at 7:30. Walter and Bush were taken to a hospital in Postville, where the former is confined in a serious condition, though hope is entertained for him if complications do not set in. Bush has been able to go home, though he is badly cut and bruised about the head and one leg.
Several cars were reported passing by the two cars on the highway, but because the cars were in the center of the road the passing drivers failed to stop fearing that it might be an attempted hold-up. As a result, the injured men were without assistance for at least 45 minutes, according to officials who were called to the scene.
The Fuelling death makes the second fatal automobile accident on this same highway, within a distance of two miles, inside of ten days. The other fatality was the death of Lu Nida Lenth, week before last, and reported in these columns last week.
Following is the obituary of Lloyd Fuelling:
Lloyd Fuelling, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fuelling, was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Clayton county. Lloyd was a member of the Luther League and the choir of St. John’s Lutheran church, Farmersburg.
Lloyd made his home with his parents. For a time he had been working on the farm, but for the last few years he was attending high school in Farmersburg.
On Saturday night he was fatally injured in a car accident and died Sunday morning at about 7:30. He reached the ages of 19 years and three months.
He leaves to mourn, his father and mother, his two brothers, Elmer and Carlton; also two grandmothers, Mrs. Fred Kurth and Mrs. Ernest Fuelling. Besides this, there is a host of relatives and friends.
Lloyd was well thought of by all, and the place he leaves vacant will be felt for some time. May he rest in peace and the eternal light shine.
The family wishes to thank all those who have helped in word and deed during this their time of sorrow. They wish to thank also for the floral offerings
