Elkader Register, Thur., 19 Jan. 1893.

At National on Jan. 14, 1893, occurred the death of Merritt Stanley, infant son of Ashman and Delia Smith, born Dec. 30, 1892.

Just as the golden sun
Illuminated the eastern sky,
The one that we so loved
Was carried home on high.
A beauteous angel stood,
And held to Babe its hand:
"Come, go with me," it said
"To that fair and happy land."
Then should we mourn or weep
For a soul that is at rest,
And will forever happy be
On his Savior's loyal breast?

The funeral was held on Sunday last at 2 o'clock p.m., Rev. Mr. Lusk, of Elkader, officiating.
