Stephen D. Rowell, another highly respected citizen, departed this life Wednesday night at 12 o'clock, Oct. 10, at the age of 69 years, after six weeks' of intense suffering from internal injuries caused by falling from an apple tree. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church, Saturday forenoon, conducted by Rev. J. G. Whitford, and the remains were laid to rest in the Cox Creek cemetery beside a little son who died many years ago. Mr. Rowell was born in New Hampshire in 1824, was united in marriage with Hulda Whipple in 1849, who, with two children, Mrs. A Wandell, of Brush Creek, and Willis Rowell, of Volga, are left to mourn. He came to Iowa thirty-six years ago and located in Clayton County. He was a Christian thirty-three years and a member of the M.E. church. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of all.
