Aug. Martens, age 20 years, a son of Fritz Martens, of Communia, while attending the picnic at Communia on Sunday last was taken suddenly ill and died within 30 minutes. The funeral took place on Tuesday, Rev. Siefert officiating.

Note:
August C.F. Mertens, 1873-1894 has a gravestone in the Evergreen cemetery, Prairie du Chein, WI. His parents Friedrich & Frederike (Bethke) Mertens are also buried there.
