Elkader Register, Thur., 30 Aug. 1894.
From the Guttenberg News we glean the particulars of the death of Mrs. Thomas Wilson (nee Caroline Scudder), who peacefully passed away at her home in Clayton twp. on Thursday, Aug. 16, of cancer of the stomach. Although having been a sufferer for many months her sudden demise was a painful surprise to her husband, grandson and many friends. Mrs. Wilson was born in Ohio in 1828, and moved to Iowa in April, 1849, and was married to Thomas Wilson in 1855, continuing to reside in Clayton township to the date of her death. In the early days and years of his married life she bravely struggled with her husband in the ups and downs of this world and as a cheerful helpmate she assisted to accumulate enough of worldly goods to enjoy the comforts that God provides for all true Christians. She was ever ready to console the afflicted and help the needy. She was a true wife, loving mother and a kind hearted friend. The husband and grandson have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. The remains were taken to the Garnavillo cemetery, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. May her everlasting slumbers be the sweetest.
