Elkader Register, Thur., 26 July 1894.
Again death has taken from the ranks of the old settlers of Clayton County a respected and popular man. On Saturday, July 22d, at his home in Garnavillo, occurred the death of C. H. Tangeman, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 11 days. Deceased had been in poor health for a long time and his death was foreseen for about a week, but nevertheless the news of his death pained his many relatives and friends. Mr. Tangeman was born in Hoellingen, Hanover, Oct. 11, 1817, and came to America with his parents, brothers and sisters in 1838, and settled near New Bremen, Ohio, where he worked at the carpenter trade. On May 22, 1846, he was married to Miss Margarethe W. Koop, who survives him. In June, 1856, they came to Clayton County and settled on a farm in Read twp., when failing health compelled him to turn over his farm to his children and seek rest in village life at Garnavillo. Twelve children were born to them, of which two have preceded him in death, and the youngest daughter, Mahalie, is unmarried. The funeral was held Tuesday and was largely attended. May he rest in peace.
