Elkader Register, Thur. 07 June 1894. Elkport column.

George S. Masters, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Elk twp., died Wednesday of consumption. Mr. Masters was 61 years of age, and has been a resident of Clayton County for the past thirty-five years. He was one of God's noblest works - an honest man. Honest and fair in all his dealings, and a friend once, a friend for all time. He has suffered a great deal the past six months and he welcomed the end. The funeral took place Thursday and was the largest ever in Elk township. To the bereaved widow and daughter we extend our heartfelt sympathy, for they have lost a kind and affectionate husband and father, and they can find consolation in the fact that he was an honest, upright citizen respected and beloved by all who were acquainted with him and that he died as he had lived, an honest man. We have been personally and intimately acquainted with him for twenty years and never did we hear of a mean or dishonorable thing that George Masters had done. His advice was always that of a true friend and never was he known to betray a trust. In his death Elk twp. has lost one of its most beloved citizens. May he rest in peace and receive the reward to which he is entitled.
