At his residence in Farmersburg twp., on Thursday, March 29th, after an illness of two weeks with la grippe, George W. Pahlas gave up this life in his early manhood, surrounded by all that wealth could give. He was the youngest son of Fred and Amelia Pahlas, of Elkader, and was born in Read twp., Nov. 20th, 1858. April 12, 1881 he was married to Lizzie Vogt, who died in 1885, leaving one daughter. August 12, 1887 he was married to Annie Mueller, who with two children survives him, with his parents, one brother, H. C., of this township, and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Schoulte, of Farmersburg, and Mrs. Sarah Mueller, of Clayton twp.

The deceased was noted for his cheerful disposition and liberal, open heartedness, as a kind husband and father, and a respected and upright citizen. The angel of death is not a respecter of persons, and in this instance claims one who will be sadly missed by all who knew his manly character. In heartfelt sympathy we can only say, "Not my will but thine, O Lord."

The funeral was held at Clayton Center on Saturday, by Rev. F. W. Seifert and attended by a large number of sorrowing friends of the family.
