On Friday, August 14, 1891, occurred the death of Charles Glidden, at his home near Volga City, after an illness of nearly two months duration, caused by la grippe. He was a native of the state of Maine and was 84 years, one month and three days old at the time of his death. He was one of Iowa's early pioneers, coming into the state in the year 1842. He leaves a wife and several children, besides a large number of grandchildren to mourn his loss. Rev. Williams preached the funeral discourse. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Taylorville.
