Elkader Register, Thur., 30 July 1891.

On Wednesday last occurred the death of Henry Cook, one of the early settlers of Marion township, after a long sickness. Mr. Cook was born in Bavaria, Germany, March 19th, 1814, and consequently was over 77 years of age at the time of his death. He came to the United States when he was but sixteen years of age, landing at New Orleans, and from there he went to Cincinnati by way of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. He soon came to Clayton county, locating on the farm where he died. At that time it was in Wagner township, but in 1855 it became part of the newly organized township of Marion. He was highly respected by his neighbors and held many local offices. His wife died some months ago, but ten children are left to mourn his death. J. D. Cook, of this place, is a son of the deceased. The funeral took place on Friday, and was largely attended.
