DIED. At Waukon, Allamakee county, on the 16th inst., Martha Elizabeth, only daughter of John W. and Emma Gillet, of Garnavillo, in this county.
This is a most afflicting dispensation and one that calls forth the deepest sympathies of the whole community. Mr. Gillet was one of the first settlers of Clayton county; and although possessed of the strongest social affections, he had to submit for years to the deprivation of the enjoyments of the family and social circles.
At last the tide of emigration set toward the home of his choice, and civilization drove back the savages whom, for years he had been accustomed to see, roaming over the prairies and through the forest.
To his home and heart he took Miss Emma Castle, and in the summer of 1856 [date is best guess], they were the happy parents of three lovely children.
But alas! death entered the happy family, and in one short week, the spirits of the three children were wafted to a brighter and better world.
Another child was born to the bereaved parents, and under the influence of its smiles, the wounds of anguish began to heal. But again, death came, and the brightest spirit of little Elizabeth has gone to join her brothers in that happy sphere where parting and sorrow are not known.

Note: Burial is in the Old Garnavillo cemetery where her mother Emma and brothers George, James and John (all died 1856) are buried.
