Elkader Register, Thur., 26 Mar. 1891. Local Scrap Bag column.

SCARLET FEVER - Mr. and Mrs. A. Stuvland, living in the northeast portion of Highland township, with a family of seven children, the oldest but 13 years old, are the subjects of sore and sad affliction. Last week all of their children were taken down with scarlet fever. On Friday night a bright little three year old was called to join the heavenly throng, and on the following night three more passed to that unknown country. At this writing the remaining three are lying very low, one of which is not expected to last but a few hours. The board of health should use every available means to prevent a spread of the disease.

______________

Note: The obituary of Alexander C. Stuvland indicates that six of his 10 children predeceased him; and that his wife was Ingeborg Lien. All of the Stuvland children are buried in the Marion Lutheran cemetery where they share a gravestone. They are: Adolph, Anna, Clara, Joran, Lena & Malla
