Elkader Register, Thur., 29 Nov. 1923.

Monday morning, Nov. 26th, Carroll Clark, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Clark, took his life with his own hand at the home of his parents, 2 miles northwest of Volga City.

Carroll had been in town part of the day Sunday, and seemed in his usual good spirit and that evening accompanied by Russell Blake went to Elkader. They returned home shortly after 1:00 o'clock and it was supposed that he started for his home. instead he went to the D. J. Crain home where he remained until after midnight. Here he produced a revolver which was taken away from him. After leaving D. J. Crain's he went home, put the car in the garage and went to his room. Shortly afterwards he left the house and went to the garage again where the report of a gun was immediately heard, and when his parents got there he was laying on the floor unconscious. This occurred at 2:30 a.m. Medical aid was at once summoned but there was nothing that could be done and the last spark of life passed out about 7 o'clock, without regaining consciousness. He used a 22 rifle and the bullet entered his right temple.

His parents, relatives and friends are at a loss to know of any reasons that would cause him to commit such a rash deed.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the home and 10:00 o'clock at the Methodist church at Volga City. The services were in charge of Rev. H. A. Crumb and interment was made in Hill Crest cemetery. - Volga City News.
